The additional State Pension (also known as State Second Pension) is an additional pension to your basic State Pension.
Is additional State Pension for me?
Until April 2002, you could only qualify for an additional State Pension as an employee through the State Earnings-Related Pension Scheme (SERPS).
From 6 April 2002, the State Second Pension reformed SERPS to provide a better additional State Pension for you if you have low or moderate earnings.
If you are a carer or have a long-term illness or disability it may allow you to build up an additional State Pension.
You can sometimes get an additional State Pension based on the National Insurance contributions of your husband or wife.
How can I find out more?
You can find out more on The Pension Service website, or in the leaflet 'State Pensions – Your guide (PM2)', which you order through the website or by phoning 0845 7 31 32 33.
