Car Rescue

Despite the fact that cars are more reliable than ever, each year many motorists are stranded when their car breaks down, especially during the winter months. It is easy to avoid many of the more common faults by simply keeping your vehicle in a good working order. However, many people just rely on their garage to keep their car in working order. If this is the case it is well worth investing in a roadside rescue policy to ensure you can be rescued should you ever need it!

The different types of road rescue include:

Roadside Rescue: Designed to quickly get you moving again following a breakdown. If the mechanic is unable to fix your car on the spot (60 minutes free labour is usually allocated) it may well be towed to the nearest garage within a specified distance. With a road rescue policy all you should have to pay for are the parts. In the event that your car should breakdown close to your house you should not expect the policy to provide cover.

•  Roadside Rescue and Home Rescue: As it suggests, this type of policy provides the same level of cover but also includes cover against a breakdown which occurs at your house. The other main benefit is that your vehicle will usually be transported to your local garage of choice.

•  Roadside Rescue and Recovery Plus: The most comprehensive UK rescue policy, Roadside Rescue and Recovery Plus will provide all the benefits of the other car rescue policies and a choice of either:

  • A hire car to enable you to return home or continue your journey.
  • The cost of alternative transport to enable your journey to be completed or for you to return home.
  • Hotel accommodation while your car is repaired.

•  European Rescue: If you regularly take your car to Europe you should invest in a breakdown policy which will cover your trip to Europe . Some of the benefits of European breakdown cover include:

  • The cost of travelling home in the event your car is stolen.
  • Your vehicle returned to the UK if it cannot be driven.
  • Legal cover
  • Replacement of parts if they are not available locally.

As with all insurance products, some insurers offer different inclusions and exclusions. Typically, such areas to look into include insurance for caravans or trailers, breakdown cover as part of the car insurance policy and discounts for multiple cars kept at the same address.
