Mortgage Interest Relief

These figures are correct from 6th April 2001

This is a tax relief you can claim on mortgage interest payments. The highest amount of relief is as follows:
Status First Time Mortgage Holders
Married  EUR 6,349
Single  EUR 3,174
Widowed  EUR 6,349
You cannot claim on the first EUR 130 if you're single or widowed, or on the first EUR 254 if you are married.

In the tax year 2001 tax relief will be available at the standard rate of 20%.

To get exact figures on your mortgage interest relief contact your Tax Office.

An interest certificate is issued to you when your loan is set up, outlining the estimated sum of interest to be charged up to the end of the current tax year. You should contact your tax office for a claim form. When you send the completed form back to them, they will adjust your tax-free allowance.
