Sonaecom swings to Q2 net profit, mobile revenue up
LISBON, July 31 (Reuters) - Portuguese telecoms company Sonaecom (Lisbon: SNCAE.LS - news) swung to a second-quarter net profit as the number of mobile clients rose almost 10 percent.
Sonaecom, which owns the country's third-largest mobile phone operator Optimus (Paris: FR0010312181 - news) , said in a statement issued just before midnight on Thursday it made a net profit of 1.2 million euros ($1.69 million), which compared with a loss in the same period last year of 6.7 million euros.
The number of mobile customers rose 9.6 percent from a year ago to reach nearly 3.3 million.
Revenue edged up just over 1 percent to 240.7 million euros, while earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) increased 33 percent to 46.1 million euros.
Forecasts by five analysts in a Reuters poll had ranged from a loss of 2.9 million euros to a profit of 5 million euros. Analysts had expected, on average, EBITDA of 44 million euros and revenue of 240 million euros.
