Provisional figures released by Destatis showed that public revenue increased by 3.2 percent to 760.2 billion euros in Europe's biggest economy, while spending rose by 2.5 percent to 774.8 billion.

The difference was nonetheless 4.2 billion euros smaller than in the first three quarters of 2007, Destatis said.
