lows after consumer sentiment data

U.S. stocks were near sessions lows early Friday after data on consumer
sentiment. Major indexes had briefly pared gains after business activity data
showed activities in the U.S. Midwest expanded to their highest level since
since September 2008.
The Dow Jones industrial average was down 76.71 points, or 0.77
percent, at 9,885.87. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was down 8.46
points, or 0.79 percent, at 1,057.65. The Nasdaq Composite Index was
down 11.70 points, or 0.56 percent, at 2,085.85.
