German jobless rate falls slightly in June

BERLIN (AFP) - The rate of unemployment in Germany, Europe's biggest economy, fell to 8.1 percent in June from 8.2 percent in May, the federal labour office said on Tuesday.

The number of German jobless nonetheless rose by 31,000, after rising 7,000 in the previous month, data adjusted for seasonal variations showed.

Economists polled by Dow Jones Newswires had predicted June unemployment would rise by an adjusted 50,000.
