Chrysler-Fiat court hearing to end Friday: judge
NEW YORK(AFP) (AFP) - Court hearings on US automaker Chrysler (Xetra: 710000 - news) 's bid to escape liquidation through an alliance with Italy's Fiat (Milan: F.MI - news) will end Friday, the presiding judge said.
"We're going to stay here until it's finished," Judge Arthur Gonzalez said on the third day of hearings at the US Bankruptcy Court in New York.
Gonzalez said closing arguments by Chrysler and opponents to the Fiat deal would start shortly after 1830 GMT. His ruling on whether to approve the plan is expected to follow shortly after final arguments.
The third-largest US automaker has declared bankruptcy and is seeking a tie-up with Fiat in a US government-crafted plan to save the company from total collapse.
Creditors, parts suppliers, dealership owners and others have filed hundreds of objections claiming that the US government and Chrysler trampled their rights in a rush to force through the rescue.
