There will be a gradual handover of the Old Mutual UK Select Mid Cap Fund to Richard Watts, the deputy fund manager. This is not the first time Ashton Bradbury has handed over the baton to a new manager. In January 2004 he handed over the Old Mutual UK Select Smaller Companies Fund to Daniel Nickols, who has continued the fund’s excellent track record.
Daniel Nickols will take over as the head of the Mid and Small Cap team from 1st January 2009 and will also take over the offshore Old Mutual Dublin UK Select Smaller Companies Fund from Luke Kerr. This change will allow Luke Kerr to focus on managing two hedge funds, one which he currently manages in addition to one he will take over from Ashton Bradbury.
We will meet with Richard Watts in due course, but our initial view is that we feel relatively relaxed about this change. We believe Ashton Bradbury has built one of the best UK Mid and Small cap teams in the industry. While he will no longer manage money, he will still be at the firm providing guidance and support to the overall equities team. If our views change, we will of course keep investors updated.
