I try hard, gang, to let you learn at least one thing when reading my modest column on this august website. This is arrogant of me, because I bet my bottom dollar that you already know everything I say. This can sometimes make me believe that all I impart is an exercise in the bloomin obvious.

And yet There are a lot of things that all of us just fail to pick up. Loads of other share shifters might know the fact in question. We somehow miss it. This is because the share field is a horrendously complex subject.

We cannot know everything. Those who make you think they do I put a fair few journalists in this category are kidding themselves.

I wont give you an example of a financial thing you might not know. You probably do know it and Ill look silly. But let me try you with a question of pronunciation.

Did (A074130.KQ - news) you know that the th in asthma is not sounded? Few do. And from now on youll stop struggling to say the th and find the word a lot easier.

Same for the word excerpt. Dont pronounce the p and youll be able to say it without always wondering why it sounds wrong.

Back to shares. If you learn something new, store it away for use. Not in your trading today, but for years ahead. A brilliant way of working picked up now could save you thousands of pounds in the future. Maybe a hundred thousand pounds.

Everybody knows we should ride winners and dump losers. But do they? Some people may have been unlucky enough never to have come across this effective share proverb.

If I mention this famous maxim in my column, loads of punters will groan because its become a cliché. But the odd few wont have heard of it before so Ive saved somebody a bit of money. Thats all I dare ask for. Rock on.
