Some shares dont shift. They hang around for weeks, maybe months without anything happening. Theyre a waste of time (literally) because we hang onto them and keep checking their progress. Probably at least once a day. Its human nature. A matter of common curiosity.

And yet they continue to go nowhere. They dont lose much money, so they tend not to breach stop-limits. But they dont make any money. Even if the cash was safely tucked into a bank, it would make some money on interest. But stuck in a penny share or maybe a small cap company (these are the ones that stay stuck for longest) they merely tie up money.

Its best to grab hold of these lazy beggars and turf them out into the street. Shares do not have feelings, so it doesnt matter.

And yet some Crazies dont like to be cruel, even to lazy unfeeling shares. So they hang on out of a misplaced sense of loyalty. Maybe they did pile on a lot of value – once. But now they lie dormant. Until one day they might disappear altogether and leave you holding nothing.

Because lets face it, a share which doesnt put on value is not in a company which is going places. A lot of firms just hang on by their fingertips. They only make enough loot not to go bust. But the bulk of the income goes on keeping the premises and the staff going. This kind of firm doesnt grow, possibly because the management gets lazy.

Or more likely the firm is just out of vogue it makes stuff nobody wants at uncompetitive prices. It was a good idea once. Times (1832.HK - news) change.

I try to get rid of these sleepers. I dont always succeed because I dont even notice them in my pile anymore. Rather like a sleeping tiger, they dont move, so you dont seem them. I know what Ill do. Seek em out and wave bye. Rock on.
