Sky News Wins Digital Media Award
By Sky News
Sky News has won another award - our online site picked up the "Media" category at the NMA Effectiveness Awards. It followed the redevelopment of the news website as the breaking news destination on the web, making it video-rich, user friendly
and easy to navigate. The judges said that the project demonstrated great use of breaking news, good dwell time and excellent user involvement. The award was received by Paul Wright, Director of Sales, Sky Digital Media, and Steve Bennedik, Editor, Sky News Networked Media. Mr Bennedik said: " We are delighted to get this honour. It proves we are effective editorially and commercially. "I am glad the judges recognised us as the breaking news destination on the web. "We plan to keep building on this success in the future as we take the Sky News website to the next level in its development." The number of site users grew 66% between April 2007 and March 2008. Revenues increased by 94% against a sales target of 75%. Sky News online now leads the commercial marketplace for news sites both in average minutes per visitor and average visits. The NMA awards are now their 11th year. They aim to award those in the Digital Media industry who have best demonstrated that they understand the importance of interactive media, that they have a vision about how to use it effectively, and that they have executed that plan and have achieved excellent results which demonstrate tangible business benefits for their organisation. The awards evening, at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane, was hosted by comedian David Mitchell. The top prize - the Grand Prix - was taken by the British Heart Foundation's Junk Monkeys campaign, created by Avenue A/Razorfish and the John Brown Group. The campaign, which also won the Charity category, was aimed at children starting secondary school. It encouraged them to eat more healthily to reduce the risk of heart problems later in life. Among the other winners were Imaginet's Chiltern Railways website, which won in Travel. The Music category was won by MPL Communications for its work supporting the launch of Sir Paul McCartney's new album Memory Almost Full, done by Outside Line.
