American Airlines cancels 132 flights Thursday as MD-80 maintenance continues
SAN FRANCISCO (Thomson Financial) - AMR Corp (NYSE: AMR - news) .'s American Airlines said it canceled 132 flights in its system so far Thursday as the re-inspection of its MD-80 aircraft continues.
The Thursday cancellations represent 6% of the total number of flights, the Fort Worth, Texas-based carrier said.
American said that 243 aircraft inspections have been completed as of 10 a.m. CDT.
Forty-seven aircraft are still being worked on and are expected to be returned to service Thursday, the company said. Nine aircraft will be inspected this evening, which will complete the maintenance program.
American canceled 318 flights on Wednesday.
The re-inspections follow a maintenance-compliance order from the Federal Aviation Administration.
AMR shares were down 5 cents at $8.55.
