ITV gets knock-down bid for Friends Reunited -paper
LONDON, July 26 (Reuters) - Internet entrepreneur Peter Dubens has emerged as a bidder for Friends Reunited, the social networking site bought by broadcaster ITV (LSE: ITV.L - news) in 2005 for 175 million pounds ($290 million), according to The Mail On Sunday.
Dubens, who sold his consumer and broadband division of Pipex (LSE: PXC.L - news) to Tiscali (TIS.MDD - news) for 210 million pounds in 2007, had offered about 15 million pounds for Friends Reunited through his private equity firm Oakley Capital (LSE: OCL.L - news) , the newspaper said, citing a source close to the negotiations.
ITV, Britain's largest free-to-air broadcaster, put the website on the block in February as part of a sale of assets after being hammered by the severe downturn in advertising.
An ITV spokeswoman declined to comment on the report.
Separately, The Sunday Telegraph said U.S. video-on-demand venture Hulu was in talks with ITV ahead of a UK launch later this year, citing a company source.
