Allegheny most volatile in sector
NEW YORK (AP) - As the quarter winds down, specialty metals producer Allegheny Technologies Inc. is the most volatile stock in the materials sector of the S&P 500 index.
The stock has an average 'beta value,' or measure of volatility, of 1.88, which implies that, in theory, it is 88 percent more volatile than the market in general.
The least volatile stock in the group is gold producer Newmont Mining Corp., with a beta value of 0.82.
