STOCKS NEWS ASIA-Shares seen dipping; tech may rise
MELBOURNE, Oct 26 (Reuters) - Asian stocks are set to dip on
Monday as a series of weak results for U.S. industrial companies
weighed on Wall Street, but technology firms could gain support
from stronger results within that sector.
The main U.S. share indices closed as much as 1.2 percent
down but the tech-heavy Nasdaq (NASDAQ: news) lost only 0.5 percent.
Shares of technology bellwether Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ: MSFT - news)
jumped 5.4 percent to $28.02 and online retailer Amazon.com Inc soared 26.8 percent to $118.49 after earlier climbing to
a lifetime high of $119.65..
U.S. crude oil futures ended down for a second day in a row
on Friday as worries about the pace of economic recovery and weak
oil demand amid bulging stockpiles pressured the market, after
prices jumped to a 2009 high last week.
Japanese shares are expected to open weaker, with the Nikkei (news)
futures traded in Chicago 35 points below the closing
level in Osaka.
Australian shares are seen falling on Monday, led lower by
Wall Street. December share price index futures settled
28 points lower at 4,824, a 35.4-point discount to the underlying
S&P/ASX index's close on Friday.
