NEW YORK, Sept 24 (Reuters) - Some U.S. stocks to watch on Thursday:

CITIGROUP INC (NYSE: C - news) , $4.59, up 1.8 pct

The bank plans to cut down its U.S. branch network to six big metropolitan areas, according to a late Wednesday report in the Wall Street Journal, which cited people familiar with the situation.

ELECTRONIC ARTS (NASDAQ: ERTS - news) , $19.31, down 3.6 pct

A Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT - news) executive said the software company had no plans to buy Electronic Arts, shooting down unsubstantiated talk of a potential bid that triggered a spike in the video game publisher's shares.

GOLDMAN SACHS GROUP INC, $185.24, up 0.9 pct

Sanford C. Bernstein raised its price target on Goldman and said the company has the capital strength and the will to take advantage of improving market conditions.

MCCORMICK & CO INC, $34.78, up 0.1 pct

The company reported its third-quarter results and narrowed its projected 2009 earnings outlook to the high end of its former target range.

VISA INC, $74, up 0.1 pct

MASTERCARD INC (NYSE: MA - news) , $219.39, Wednesday close

The GVH, Hungary's competition authority, ruled that the two companies formed an illegal bank card intercharge-fee cartel.

RITE AID CORP (NYSE: RAD - news) , $1.85, down 5.1 pct

The company posted a narrower quarterly loss as cost cuts helped offset a decline in sales, but trends remain negative, leading it to forecast a deeper loss for the year.

UNITED COMMUNITY BANKS INC (NASDAQ: UCBI - news) , $6.56, Wednesday close

The company expects to incur a third-quarter loss primarily driven by provision for loan losses.

SUNOPTA INC (NASDAQ: STKL - news) , $3.86, Wednesday close (U.S. shares)

The company agreed to settle claims raised in proposed class action proceedings that was related to the restatement of its interim financial results for the first three quarters of 2007. It also will contribute about $11.3 million to a settlement fund.

HERCULES OFFSHORE INC (NASDAQ: HERO - news) , $5.75, down 8.6 pct

The offshore driller late Wednesday said it plans to offer up to 17.5 million shares in a public offering to repay debt.

BSD MEDICAL CORP (BSM.PH - news) , $3.76, Wednesday close

The company late Wednesday said it was offering mixed shelf of up to $50 million.

COPART INC (NASDAQ: CPRT - news) , $35.52, down 7.1 pct

The company late Wednesday reported fourth-quarter earnings that missed expectations.

CONEXANT SYSTEMS INC, $3.18, down 6.2 pct

The company late Wednesday said it intends to sell 7 million shares in a public offering and use the proceeds for general corporate purposes, including repayment of debt.
