Insects and bugs are distracting motorists causing an estimated £44m worth of car damage every year, according to research undertaken by esure car insurance.

The survey revealed that three quarters of drivers have been distracted
by insects and bugs and two-fifths confessed to slamming on the brakes when confronted with a buzzing insect.

Mike Pickard, Head of Risk and Underwriting at esure, said: With an influx of insects expected to hit the UK, its worrying that over three quarters of the driving population are so easily distracted by bugs when theyre behind the wheel.

Regional differences are also marked with 87 per cent of Brummie drivers experienced insect-related distractions, while those in London appear the most tolerant with 16 per cent ignored uninvited insects
