BRUSSELS (AFP) - Factories in the nations sharing the euro single currency saw demand surge faster than economists expected in November (Frankfurt: A0S9N7 - news) due to booming transport equipment orders, official EU data showed Wednesday.

New industrial orders in the eurozone rose 2.7 percent in November from October and jumped 11.9 percent over the same month last year, the European Union's Eurostat data agency said.

The result beat economists' forecast for orders to grow 1.2 percent over one month and increase 8.6 percent from November 2006 as polled by Thomson Financial.

It also marked a sharp improvement from October when orders rose 2.5 percent over one month and increased 10.8 percent over one year.

November's data showed that the overall increase was driven by strong demand for volatile transport equipment, with new orders up 7.3 percent over one month and 28.7 percent over one year.
