New Zealand and Canada liberalise air links
WELLINGTON (AFP) - New Zealand and Canada have signed a new air transport agreement to allow more flights between the two countries, New Zealand Trade Minister Tim Groser said Wednesday.
The agreement creates new business and tourism opportunities for both countries, Groser said after signing the agreement with Canadian counterpart Stockwell Day in Singapore.
"The agreement removes previous limitations on the frequency of flights that can be provided," Groser said in a statement.
"Additionally, New Zealand and Canadian carriers can now operate to and beyond each others' country over any routing."
Almost 49,000 Canadians visited New Zealand in the year to April 2009, and 20,000 New Zealanders travelled to Canada as their primary destination last year.
