STOCKS NEWS ASIA-Shares to fall as Wall St turns negative

WELLINGTON, Oct 22 (Reuters) - Asian stocks are likely to make a weak start on Thursday after Wall St dipped late in the session on a sell off of financial stocks. The main U.S. share indices closed as much as 0.9 percent lower, dragged down late by a poor result from Boeing (NYSE: BA - news) and after an influential analyst recommended investors sell Wells Fargo bank. British and European shares were up to 0.5 percent higher, closing before the negative news hit Wall St, with banks and energy firms gaining. Japanese shares are expected to make a weak start, with Nikkei (news) futures traded in Chicago 60 points below the last closing level in Osaka. Australian stocks are also seen opening lower, with share index futures at 4,812, a 26.6 point discount to the underlying S&P/ASX 200 index's close on Wednesday. The euro broke above the $1.50 mark for the first time in 14 months, while the yen was steady, as investors expect U.S. interest rates to lag behind rises in other markets. Oil prices jumped nearly 3 percent to a one-year high above $81 a barrel, on the back of data showing a sizeable fall in U.S. inventories.
