UPDATE 1-Almirall says to announce lung drug data Q1 2010
MADRID, Oct 20 (Reuters) - Spanish drug company Almirall (Madrid: ALM.MC - news) said it would announce results from a completed Phase
II trial and an ongoing Phase III trial on its Eklira lung drug in the first quarter of 2010.
The positive outcome of a short-term Phase II study comparing Eklira with tiotropium and placebo confirm the decision to add new Phase III trials, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.
Almirall will disclose the results of a three-month Phase III trial with two different doses of Eklira compared with placebo in patients with moderate to severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in the first quarter of next year.
Eklira is the commercial name for Almirall's key lung drug aclidinium bromide. Almirall and Forrest Laboratories are jointly developing the project.
At 0807 GMT, Almirall shares were up 0.4 percent to 9.00 euros.
