Skiers should check for off-piste cover

People about to go on skiing holidays are warned to check the small print of their travel insurance policy for off-piste cover, the Post Office has said.
Following large numbers of avalanches across Europe and North America, Helen Warburton,
head of travel services at the Post Office, said skiers need to be aware that unless they are accompanied by a guide or instructor when skiing off-piste, any injuries sustained may not be eligible for medical cover.
She said: Many holidaymakers dont realise this is a requirement, so we are urging people to check the small print before venturing into unmarked terrain. The costs for medical treatment in ski resorts can be very high and accidents are potentially more likely to happen with the high risk of avalanches as well as hazards hidden under the deep snow. Our message is be fully prepared for every eventuality on your mountain adventure.
If the snow keeps falling, then remember to check your policy documents regarding piste closure from too much snow as well.
