Vodafone earnings plummet, takes massive charge

LONDON (AFP) - British mobile phone giant Vodafone (LSE: VOD.L - news) said Tuesday its annual net profit tumbled by more than half as it took massive charges against its business, especially in Spain.

Vodafone, the world's biggest mobile phone company by revenues, said earnings in its year to March 2009 fell 53.8 percent to 3.08 billion pounds (4.60 billion dollars, 3.46 billion euros) after taking a charge of 5.9 billion pounds.
