Rank Group appoints Phil Urban as managing director of its casino business
LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Rank Group Plc (LSE: RNK.L - news) . said it has appointed Phil Urban as managing director of its casinos business, Grosvenor Casinos, with effect from June 2.
Urban, who will also join the group's executive committee, will succeed Peter McCann, the UK-based gaming company said.
Rank has been under the cosh in recent months following changes to UK gaming regulations and the smoking ban, which have had a damaging effect on its on its financial performance.
Its like-for-like revenue for the first 17 weeks of the year was down 8 percent on the corresponding period of last year, it said earlier this month, acknowledging 2008 is likely to be 'a challenging year for the gaming sector'.
Finance director Peter Gill is also due to step down on June 1. He will be replaced by Paddy Gallagher, also effective June 2.
