BERLIN (AFP) - The head of German car maker Porsche (Xetra: 693773 - news) , Wendelin Wiedeking, is by far the best-paid boss in the sector, with an annual salary of some 60 million euros (90 million dollars), according to the weekly AutomobilWoche.

He is streets ahead of RenaultNissan's Carlos Ghosn, Ford's Alan Mullaly, Dieter Zietsche of Daimler (Xetra: 710000 - news) and Sergio Marchionne of Fiat (Milan: F.MI - news) , the weekly says in its latest edition appearing Monday.

But the salary figures take no account of bonuses, which in 2006 totalled 70 million euros for Wiedeking, a figure which stunned Germany when revealed at the end of last year.

Six top board members at the automobile giant shared 113 million euros on top of their basic pay for that year, prompting calls for restraint from leading politicians, including Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The German luxury sports car maker, which has its eyes on taking over Volkswagen (Xetra: 766400 - news) , last month reported a 44 percent increase in net profit for the first half of its 2007-2008 fiscal year.

Ghosn's salary for 2006 was 34.49 million euros, according to AutomobilWoche, which said it had no figures for last year.

Mullay was paid the equivalent of 13.9 million euros in 2007, Zietsche 10.67 million and Marchionne 6.91 million euros, the weekly said.
