FACTBOX-Main sources of foreign investment in Australia
Sept 17 - An Australian Senate inquiry on Thursday backed
existing rules for approving foreign investment into the country,
saying the Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB) process
provided good protection.

The inquiry was prompted by a surge in foreign investment
proposals from resource-hungry China, which is keen to expand its
footprint in Australia's mining sector.
According to the inquiry's report, total levels of foreign
investment in Australia reached A$1.724 trillion ($1.51 trillion)
as of Dec. 31, 2008.
Here is a list of Australia's main sources of foreign
investment, inclduing financial investment, and that country's
percentage of total foreign investment in Australia.

applications from Chinese firms.)
