Alstom declares itself civil party in French-Swiss bribery probe
PARIS (Thomson Financial) - French engineering firm Alstom (Paris: FR0010220475 - news) said it has declared itself a civil party in the ongoing probe by Swiss and French authorities into bribery claims.
Alstom said the probe '(relates) to possible misuse of company assets detrimental to Alstom'.
Earlier this month the Wall Street Journal Europe reported that French and Swiss authorities were investigating whether Alstom paid hundreds of millions of dollars to win contracts in Asia and South America between 1995 and 2003.
Alstom said then that 'No legal action for any such corruption has been instituted against Alstom' and that the allegations 'are based on hypothesis and speculation'.
