IMF chief sees global economy recovering in first-half 2010
VIENNA (AFP) - IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn said on Friday that he expected the global economy to recover in the first half of next year.
"We still see a recovery in first semester of 2010 and the beginning of the turning point in October, November or December" this year, the head of the International Monetary Fund told a news conference in the Austrian capital.
Nevertheless, Strauss-Kahn insisted that the risks "remain very high" and that any global upturn would depend on what happens "in the banking sector."
One thing was certain, he continued. "There will be no upturn as long as the banks' balance sheets aren't fixed," he said.
