ECB says euro zone house price growth moderated further in H2 2007

FRANKFURT (Thomson Financial) - The European Central Bank said euro zone house price growth continued to moderate slightly in the second half of last year.

Annual price growth slowed to 4.0 percent in the second half of 2007 from 5.0 percent in the first half of the year and 6.5 pct in 2006, the ECB said in its May monthly bulletin.

'The trend of a gradual slowdown is common to most countries although in some cases the correction in housing markets seems to be more pronounced,' it said.

At the two extremes, Irish property prices were down 3.9 percent year-on-year in the second half of 2007, while prices in Belgium showed a 9.1 percent increase, it said.
