this sector has to offer. The fund will be managed by Duncan Goodwin and Ruairidh Stewart who already manage an offshore Global Resources Fund. Evidence from Martin Currie shows that the performance of the energy component of that portfolio has been strong since the fund was launched in December 2005, although please note past performance is not a guide to the future.Duncan Goodwin and Ruairidh Stewart believe the global energy sector is more diverse than many people think. It has a universe of around 300 companies spread across various sub-sectors including the oil & gas companies, exploration & production, equipment & services to alternative energy companies. As returns across the sectors can diverge significantly, this in turn can create stock picking opportunities which the managers will aim to capture. The Global Energy Fund itself will have a concentrated portfolio of 30 to 50 stocks, making it higher risk in what is already a specialist sector. With attractive valuations, combined with the prospects of merger & acquisition and supply & demand fundamentals, Martin Currie believes the global energy sector is well placed to thrive over the longer term. Please note this fund is not on the Wealth 150 list of our favourite funds in each sector.Meera Patel, Senior Analyst> Key Features of the Martin Currie Global Energy Fund
