HELSINKI (AFP) - Finnish inflation slowed to 0.8 percent in April on a 12-month basis from 0.9 percent in March, official figures showed.

"The rising of consumer prices was curbed most in April by falling interest rates and reductions in the prices of liquid fuels," Statistics Finland said in a statement.

Consumer prices were unchanged in April from the level in March.

On a 12-month basis, most of the inflation was caused by increased food prices. Also alcohol, rents, tobacco, restaurant and cafe services, as well as health services were more expensive than in April 2008.

Meanwhile prices of apartments, real estate, used passenger cars and telephone calls were lower than the levels a year earlier.

But according to the Eurostat institute's preliminary information, Finland's 12-month inflation, calculated using preliminary data from the harmonised index of consumer prices, was 2.1 percent in April, up from 2.0 percent in March.
