Asian LBO loans reach $18.6 bln in year to date, Europe sees only $32.6 bln

LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Debt providers continue to support leveraged buyouts in Asia, according to data from Thomson Reuters (TRI.TO - news) , which shows that LBO loans reached $18.65 billion in the year to date, compared to about $42.1 billion for the full year of 2007.

LBO loans in Europe amounted to less than twice that at $32.6 billion in the year to date. This is a stark contrast to 2007, when European LBO loans amounted to almost $399 billion, or about ten times the Asian figure.

Thomson Financial recorded 36 LBO transactions in Asia this year compared to 128 in full year 2007.

This compares to Europe's 62 LBO transactions this year and 480 LBO transactions for all of 2007.

The figures indicate a sharp drop of private equity deals in Europe in recent months.
