Can't complain about handling 'crisis of century': Sarkozy
VAL D'ISERE, France (AFP) - French President Nicolas Sarkozy said Saturday he could not complain about having to deal with the economic downturn, which he called "the crisis of the century."
Sarkozy spoke at the World Ski Championships in the alpine resort of Val d'Isere, where he met with athletes.
"I cannot complain about having to handle the crisis of the century and having to find solutions," he told some 100 athletes.
"Because it is not everyone who must take these responsibilities. That is why I feel part of this family of athletes," Sarkozy said, adding: "My situation is less difficult than that of those without jobs."
He defended the holding of "great sporting events" in France like the ski championships, which "will be good for the entire region, to the entire mountain economy."
Sarkozy was to meet with local elected officials before attending the women's slalom final and handing flowers to the winners.
