SKorea's June trade surplus was a record: govt
SEOUL (AFP) - South Korea posted a record trade surplus in June as the value of imports fell more than exports amid the global recession, government figures have shown.
The Korea Customs Service said the surplus was 7.27 billion dollars last month, the highest since data began to be compiled in 1952.
The Ministry of Knowledge Economy in an earlier preliminary report had put the June figure at 7.4 billion dollars.
It was the fifth consecutive month of surpluses since February, with the cumulative surplus for the first half standing at 28 billion dollars.
Exports fell 12.4 percent last month from a year earlier to 32.63 billion dollars, while imports dropped 32.9 percent over the same period to 25.36 billion.
