Taiwan seeks further study on China investments in property sector - report
TAIPEI (XFN-ASIA) - Taiwan's cabinet has ordered further study on proposals to ease rules governing investments by mainland China entities in the island's real estate sector, the Economic Daily News reported.
The Executive Yuan, or cabinet, at a meeting yesterday discussed proposals such as easier administrative procedures for China investments in the local property sector, and the issue of allowing mainland investors to borrow loans from Taiwan banks for such investments, the paper said.
However, Vice Premier Chiou I-jen demanded further study on the matter, it said.
Taiwan lifted a ban on mainland China investments in the island's real estate sector in 2002, but has approved only four applications since then, the paper noted.
