  • ING downgrades Legal and General (3166.KL - news) to sell from hold, Prudential to hold from buy and Irish Life & Permanent (Dublin: ILB.IR - news) to hold from buy, but raises Standard Life (LSE: SL.L - news) target to 157p from 138p
  • Citigroup (NYSE: C - news) downgrades Cairn Energy (Virt-X: CNE1.VX - news) to hold from buy with an unchanged £27 target, has a buy and 600p target for Charter International and a hold for Home Retail (LSE: HOME.L - news) , raising target to 265p from 260p
  • Morgan Stanley (NYSE: MS - news) has an equal-weight for Vedanta Resources (LSE: VED.L - news)
  • UBS (Virt-X: UBSN.VX - news) has a buy for AstraZeneca (LSE: AZN.L - news) , raising target to £31 from £28 and a buy for Home Retail, raising target to 285p from 275p
  • Nomura initiates coverage of Bodycote (LSE: BOY.L - news) with a reduce and 110p target, Invensys (LSE: ISYS.L - news) with a buy 275p target, Smiths Group (LSE: SMIN.L - news) with a buy 890p target and Tomkins (LSE: TOMK.L - news) with a reduce and 120p target
  • GE and CR has Vatukoula as a speculative buy with an increased 4.8p target
  • Jefferies maintains buys for Renewable Energy (LSE: REH.L - news) and PV Crystalox
  • Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS - news) raises target of Johnson Matthey (LSE: JMAT.L - news) to £12.90 from 915p
  • Deutsche Bank (Xetra: 514000 - news) has a buy and 100p target for Lloyds Banking Group (LSE: LLOY.L - news)
  • Collins Stewart (LSE: CLST.L - news) has a buy and a 155p target for RSA Insurance and a buy for Cape (LSE: CIU.L - news) . The broker has downgraded its earnings forecasts for Carnival (NYSE: CCL - news) by 6% for 2009 and by 17% for 2010 and has sell ratings on both Carnival and Royal Caribbean
  • Credit Suisse retains outperform for Carnival but cuts target to £18.20 from £20.73
  • Goldman Sachs reiterates buy for ITV (LSE: ITV.L - news) , adding the stock to its Conviction Buy List and has a sell for Johnson Matthey
  • FinCap cautious on Synchronica (LSE: SYNC.L - news) , positive on Intercede (LSE: IGP.L - news) and advises taking profits in Talvivaara
  • Barclays Capital initiates coverage of ARM Holdings with an overweight
