Tokyo shares open lower on record oil prices, U.S. credit concerns

TOKYO (Thomson Financial) - Japanese shares opened lower on Monday, tracking the fall on Wall Street on Friday after insurer American International Group (NYSE: AIG - news) disclosed a huge first-quarter loss while oil prices surged to new record levels.

At 9:13 a.m. (0013 GMT), the Nikkei (news) 225 Stock Average was down 66.79 points or 0.5 percent at 13,588.55. The broader Topix shed 7.14 points or 0.5 percent to 1,334.62.

The Nikkei opened down 89.43 points or 0.7 pct at 13,565.91
