hiring of a seven-strong team from Scottish Widows Investment Partnership (SWIP).

The team is headed by Nigel Bolton, who was previously Head of European Equities at SWIP. Mr Bolton has more than twenty years of investment experience. He will manage the offshore European and European Focus funds at BlackRock Merrill Lynch. Vincent Devlin will take over the Continental European Fund and Alister Hibbert will run European Dynamic; this pair are also experienced investors, with fourteen years service each.

The recruitment of such a large team is fairly unusual, but in many ways it can be considered a positive move. The performance of SWIP’s European funds was generally strong and because the team has moved en masse we have confidence that they will fit in well at BlackRock Merrill Lynch. The funds are not on the Wealth 150 list of our favourite funds in each sector, but in our opinion investors in the effected BlackRock Merrill Lynch funds have no cause for concern. If our views change in the future we will keep investors informed.
