Telenet, Mobistar extend partnership
BRUSSELS, Feb 12 (Reuters) - Belgian cable operator Telenet (Brussels: TNETS.BR - news) and mobile telecoms firm Mobistar (Brussels: MOBB.BR - news) said on Thursday they had agreed to extend a strategic partnership for at least three more years.
The firms said the new partnership had evolved into a full Mobile Virtual Network Operator deal, which implied that Telenet would develop its own Mobile Switching Centre and collaborate with Mobistar on voice and data radio infrastructure.
A joint statement said Mobistar, which is majority owned by France Telecom (Paris: FR0010560771 - news) , would be able to use Telenet's fibre optic network in Flanders to get data to the network back bone.
'This partnership agreement will enable Telenet to further expand its mobile voice and data offer with the support of Mobistar's radio infrastructure and experience,' the statement said. 'Telenet can also access the extensive handset and smartphone catalogue of Mobistar.'
