BA appoints headhunter to find COO who could become CEO - report
LONDON (Thomson Financial) - British Airways Plc has appointed a headhunter to find a new chief operating officer who could eventually replace chief executive Willie Walsh, according to reports.
BA has recruited Whitehead Mann to find
a COO to replace the two directors who quit the company after the chaotic launch of Heathrow's new terminal five, The Observer and The Independent on Sunday reported.
The airline said last month that operations director Gareth Kirkwood and customer services director David Noyes were leaving after problems with baggage systems ruined the launch of the new terminal, forcing BA to cancel hundreds of flights and leaving thousands of bags unclaimed.
BA hopes the new COO could join the board in one or two years and be considered as a potential successor to Walsh, although they would have to prove themselves as a contender for the top job, The Observer quoted Whitehead Mann partner Carol Leonard as saying.
