Polish banking lobby chief says mortgage loan market may rise 20 pct in 2008
WARSAW (Thomson Financial) - The Polish mortgage loan market may expand by around one-fifth this year, but the pace of growth could slow in the coming years, the head of the Polish Banking Association Krzystof Pietraszkiewicz told private Radio PiN today.
Strong economic growth and rising wages have prompted a mortgage-loan boom in Poland in recent years, fuelling house prices and driving banks' profits to record highs.
But price growth has slowed in recent months, and analysts say expected further rises in base interest rates are likely to cool the housing market further.
