Indonesian government sells 2 billion dollars in global bonds
JAKARTA (Thomson Financial) - The Indonesian government has sold 2 billion US dollars in global bonds to finance the budget deficit, a Finance Ministry official said Friday.
The bonds were issued in two tranches, the Indo (Madrid: IDO.MC - news) -18 and Indo-38 series worth 1 billion dollars each, said Rahmat Waluyanto, director general for debt management at the ministry.
The Indo-18 series carries a yield of 6.95 percent per annum and will mature on Jan 18, 2018, while Indo-38 carries a yield of 7.74 percent and will mature on Jan 18, 2038.
The government received bids totaling 3 billion US dollars, the official said.
'This is the largest global bond issued by the government since 1998 and probably the biggest in Asia,' he said.
Acting as joint lead managers for the bond issue were Barclays Capital, HSBC and Lehman Brothers (NYSE: LEH - news) , he said.
