Canada Dec unemployment rate steady at 5.9 pct
LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Canadians in employment edged down in December by 19,000 following seven consecutive months of increases, although the unemployment rate held steady at 5.9 pct in the month, Statistics Canada said.
Over the year, however, employment was up an estimated 2.2 pct (+370,000), similar to the growth rate of 2006 (+2.1 pct), and 2007 was the 15th consecutive year of employment growth, it added.
