China Jan-Oct gold output 223.09 tons, up 3.32 pct - ministry

BEIJING (XFN-ASIA) - China produced 223.09 tons of gold in the first 10 months of 2008, up 3.32 pct from a year earlier, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said.

In a statement published on its website, the ministry
said gold output in October stood at 23.84 tons. It gave no comparative figure.

Shandong, Henan and Fujian provinces were the top three in terms of gold production, accounting for 20.62 pct, 20.62 pct and 10.86 pct of total output, the ministry said.

According to data from the China Gold Association, gold output in 2007 was 271 tons.
