LONDON (ShareCast) - Fake Irish pubs operator Mitchells & Butlers said back in late September that full year results would be slightly above market expectations prevailing at the time, so Thursday's announcement may be slightly anti-climactic.

The O'Neill's and All Bar One owner said same outlet like-for-like sales growth in the first 51 weeks of its fiscal year was 1.6% year-on-year, while total retail sales were up by 3.4% on a year earlier.

Focus will be on the outlook for next year, when the company will have to cope with rising unemployment and the return of the VAT rate to 17.5%.

Currys and PC World owner DSG International (LSE: DSGI.L - news) releases interim figures on Thursday, and though it is expected to post a pre-tax loss of around £27m, the like-for-like sales situation at Currys should improve to around 10.5% below last year's levels.

The group is racing to revitalise its store portfolio before US operator Best Buy (NYSE: BBY - news) gets a foothold in DSG's UK heartland. Results from the refurbished stores so far have been encouraging and form a cornerstone of the company's strategy to fight off the challenge from the Internet.
