LONDON (ShareCast) - Lord Burns of Pitshanger, an economist and former permanent secretary to the Treasury, has been named as the new chairman of Channel 4.
He'll replace Luke Johnson who's due to step down on 27 January after
six years in the job.
The appointment of 65-year-old Lord Burns, chairman of Abbey National and ex-chairman of Marks and Spencer (LSE: MKS.L - news) , had been widely anticipated.
"I am delighted to be joining Channel 4. This is a time of great change as we experience the impact of the rapid development of digital technology in the communications sector and Channel 4 has a very special and continuing role to play," he said.
Lord Burns joins the broadcaster straight away and will have to decide who he'd like to take over from chief executive Andy Duncan, who's due to leave next month.
