LONDON (ShareCast) - After a mixed start the Dow is starting to make progress, though other markets are still struggling after Ebay (NASDAQ: EBAY - news)
's figures overnight.
Dow is now up 49 at 9,998. The S&P 500, though, is flat at 1,081 while Nasdaq (NASDAQ: news) has given up 9 at 2,141.
The slew of big company third quarter earnings statements continues unabated. Dow Chemical (NYSE: DOW - news) posted earnings of 63c per share on revenues of $12bn. AT&T's revenue fell 1% to $30.9bn, which included a 10% gain in wireless service revenue.
Earnings slipped nearly 2% to 54c per share. Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT - news) has launched its eagerly awaited Windows 7 operating system, which is expected to spur many PC users to change their operating system for the first time in about eight years.
Ebay has unsettled Nasdaq. It fell back after its forecast for fourth quarter earnings disappointed despite revenue in the third quarter rising 6% to $2.2bn.
