UK Pre-Budget Report earmarks extra 400 mln stg for defence operations
LONDON (Thomson Financial) - UK Chancellor Alistair Darling has earmarked an extra 400 mln stg for defence spending this year in his Pre-Budget Report unveiled today.
Darling is also providing 550 mln stg to upgrade forces accommodation.
Expenditure on defence will see 1.5 pct average annual real growth over the next three years to 2010-2011, he said.
'This settlement is the longest period of rising investment in the defence of the country for 30 years,' he said.
