Liberty International is the heaviest faller, giving up gains posted on Friday as talk of a bid for British Land (LSE: BLND.L - news) lifted real estate stocks. Among the stocks posting modest gains are the insurer Aviva (LSE: AV.L - news) . Second-best performer ENRC is bucking the trend in the mining sector. FTSE 100 down 42 at 4,671.
0825: London's blue chips started the week on a weak note with miners leading the fallers in early trading Monday morning. Xstrata (LSE: XTA.L - news) is the worst performer, closely followed by Kazakhmys (LSE: KAZ.L - news) , Vedanta Resources (LSE: VED.L - news) , Antofagasta (LSE: ANTO.L - news) , Anglo American, Lonmin (LSE: LMI.L - news) and Old Mutual (LSE: OML.L - news) . Fresnillo (LSE: FRES.L - news) is also down after the silver miner saw revenue slide in the first half of 2009 by 10.7% from a year earlier to $378.9m. FTSE 100 is down 36 points at 4,678.
